How to Bulk Edit Dashboard Widgets with Multi-Select

Introduction

As dashboards grow, editing widgets one at a time gets slow. Multi-Select Mode lets you select a group of widgets and act on all of them at once: apply or clear filters on just the widgets you picked, clone or move them into new rows and tabs, copy them to another dashboard, or delete them in one go.

This guide walks through everything that becomes available once you enter Multi-Select Mode.

Before You Begin

  • You need a Dynamic Dashboard you can edit.

  • Multi-Select lives inside edit mode — open your dashboard and click Edit in the top bar first.

Step 1: Enter Multi-Select Mode

With the dashboard in edit mode, the toolbar shows a Multi-Select button next to Bulk Apply & Save Filters and Clear All Filters:

Click it — or press Cmd+M (Ctrl+M on Windows) — to toggle Multi-Select Mode on. Press Esc or click Exit at any time to leave it.

Step 2: Select Widgets

In Multi-Select Mode an action bar appears under the toolbar, and every widget becomes clickable. Click a widget to select it (a checkmark appears in its corner); click it again to deselect. The bar keeps a live count, for example 4/7 widgets selected:

  • Select all (or Cmd+A) selects every widget on the current tab.

  • Clear deselects everything without leaving Multi-Select Mode.

Step 3: Apply Filters to Only the Selected Widgets

Normally Bulk Apply & Save Filters applies filters to every widget on the tab. With widgets selected in Multi-Select Mode, the same flow targets only your selection: click Bulk Apply & Save Filters, build your filters in the lightbox, and notice the confirm button now reads Apply to 4 Selected Widgets:

The filters are merged into each selected widget and saved — widgets you did not select keep their filters untouched. A confirmation message tells you how many widgets were updated.

Step 4: Clear Filters from Only the Selected Widgets

The same trick works in reverse. With a selection active, Clear All Filters clears filters from just the selected widgets instead of the whole tab — handy when a few widgets picked up filters they should not have.

Step 5: Clone or Move Widgets in Bulk

The action bar offers a full set of clone and move operations for your selection:

  • Clone to Row — copies the selected widgets into a brand-new row on the current tab.

  • Move to Row — moves them into a new row instead of copying.

  • Clone to Tab / Move to Tab — copies or moves the selection to another tab. After clicking, just click the destination tab — the tab bar highlights and prompts you:

  • Clone to All Tabs — copies the selection onto every other tab of the dashboard at once.

  • Clone to Dashboard — copies the selection to a different dashboard, landing in a new tab there. This one is covered in detail in its own guide: How to Clone Widgets to Another Dashboard.

Cloned widgets keep their configuration and filters, so what lands in the new row, tab, or dashboard behaves exactly like the original.

Step 6: Delete Widgets in Bulk

Click Delete (or press Cmd+D) to remove every selected widget. You are asked to confirm first, and a message confirms the result:

Deleting widgets cannot be undone, so double-check the selection count before confirming.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Cmd+M — toggle Multi-Select Mode on and off.

  • Cmd+A — select all widgets on the current tab.

  • Cmd+D — delete the selected widgets.

  • Esc — exit Multi-Select Mode.

On Windows, use Ctrl instead of Cmd. The action bar also has a keyboard icon that opens this list right inside the product.

Good to Know

  • Tab actions need tabs. Clone to Tab, Move to Tab, and Clone to All Tabs only appear on dashboards that use tabs, and you need at least one other tab to send widgets to.

  • Selections are per tab. Switching tabs clears your current selection.

  • Exiting clears the selection. Leaving Multi-Select Mode (Esc or Exit) deselects everything — nothing is changed by simply exiting.
