Inspect Column Sets: Account Defaults and Dashboard Column Sets

Inspect Column Sets: Account Defaults and Dashboard Column Sets

When you inspect a widget, Qvasa opens a table of the tickets, agents or other records behind the number. An inspect column set is a saved, named list of columns for that table, so you choose the columns once and reuse them instead of rebuilding the table on every widget.

You can set a column set at two levels:

  • Account default: every inspect table of that type, on every dashboard, opens with these columns.

  • Dashboard: every widget on one dashboard opens its inspect table with these columns, without setting them widget by widget.

Before you start

  • Each set belongs to one object type, such as Tickets, Agents, Phone Calls or Groups, and holds up to 12 columns in the order you choose. Each type has its own account default and its own dashboard pick.

  • Creating, renaming, deleting and changing a set's columns, and choosing the account default, are for admins and for users with permission to manage inspect column sets.

  • Choosing a dashboard's column sets is for anyone who can edit that dashboard.

  • Everyone on the account sees the tables these choices produce.

Which columns a table opens with

For each object type, an inspect table uses the first of these that is set:

  1. The widget's own column set, or custom columns saved on that widget.

  2. The dashboard's column set.

  3. The account default column set.

  4. Qvasa's standard columns for that table.

Sets update live: when you change a set's columns, every table using it, on every dashboard, changes with it.

Step 1: Create a column set

Sets are created inside an inspect table, so you pick the columns while looking at real data.

  1. On a dashboard, click the Inspect Data magnifying glass on a widget and open the tab for the object type you want (Tickets, Agents and so on).

  2. Click Columns to choose and order the columns.

  3. Click Column Sets, then + Save current columns as a new set, give it a name and click Save.

The Column Sets panel always tells you what the table is using under This table is using, with a tag for where it comes from: this widget, dashboard or account default. Above, the table follows the Support Triage set chosen for the dashboard.

To change an existing set, arrange the columns, select the set in the panel and click Update Selected Set.

Step 2: Choose the account default

  1. Go to Settings → Inspect Column Sets. Every object type has a section listing its sets and all of their columns.

  2. On the set you want, click the check-circle button (Make the account default). It replaces the previous default for that object type, and the green check moves to it.

From now on, every inspect table of that type opens with the default set unless a dashboard or widget picks another. The same page lets you rename a set (pencil), stop it being the default, or delete it (trash can).

Step 3: Choose a dashboard's column sets

  1. Open the dashboard and turn on edit mode.

  2. In the top bar, click the Inspect Column Sets button (the table-columns icon). You can also reach it from Edit Dashboard Attributes → Manage inspect column sets.

  3. The page has a row for each object type that has sets. In each row, pick a set, or Use the account default to follow the account. The line under the type says what its tables open with today.

  4. Click Save column sets.

Every widget on the dashboard now opens that type's inspect table with the chosen set. Above, ticket tables on Support Overview open with Support Triage, while agent tables still follow the account default, Agent Roster. Object types with no sets yet are listed, folded away, under the table.

Widgets with their own columns

A widget can still have its own columns, and they win over the dashboard and the account. You'll see this widget or Custom columns under This table is using. That happens when:

  • someone clicks Apply to Widget on a set in the Column Sets panel;

  • someone who can edit the dashboard saves a new set from that widget (the new set is applied to that widget straight away);

  • someone saves custom columns on the widget with Columns.

To make the widget follow the dashboard and account again, open Column Sets and click Clear Widget Assignment. If it shows Custom columns, apply any set to the widget first, then clear it.

Good to know

  • A widget ignores the dashboard's set: it has its own columns. See "Widgets with their own columns" above.

  • An object type is missing from the dashboard page: it has no sets yet. Create one from an inspect table on that type's tab.

  • No buttons on Settings → Inspect Column Sets: you can see the sets but not manage them. Ask an admin for the permission to manage inspect column sets.

  • Deleting a set: tables that used it fall back to the next level: the dashboard's set, the account default, or the standard columns.
